Escape the Rat Race

The Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Leave the Rat Race

Do you feel tired right now?

Do you feel unappreciated right now?

If you said “yes“ to both of those questions, then you’re not alone. Our society has a very common problem. The majority of people who get up every day, to go and work in a corporate job, who contribute meaningfully to society, are simply not happy.

Many of us feel trapped in a circular set of actions and feelings. This cycle of the corporate life has been bitterly dubbed “the rat race“, and is responsible for many cynical attitudes and a growing disillusionment with life.

However, if you’re an innovator, or a change-maker, then it’s time for you to consider leaving the rat race. This year might well be the one that you abandon the shackles of an apathetic corporate drum and forge your own path. If you’re not sure whether this is your time, here’s five things to think about.

You’re Bored and Directionless

A common problem for people in the rat race is a lack of motivation to do anything within it.

You may well have experienced this for yourself. If you have a job that pays the bills, you might feel like it’s easier to just stick around. If you’ve gotten to a comfortable position, you might not have a direction for your life anymore.

This isn’t right.

You should have your own private mountain to chase! You should have goals, ambitions, aspirations, something to drive you forward. The corporate world sucks the creative energy from all who enter it, so thinkers, entrepreneurs, potentially game-changing figures all find themselves devoid of that spark that nourishes genius.

You Aren’t Being Challenged

If you’re not being challenged, that’s a sure sign that you’re probably in the wrong place.

A good work environment is a stimulating one, one that offers exceptional levels of reward for those prepared to put the time and effort in.

Networkers, writers, artists. It doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re not feeling challenged within your current environment, then you’re not in the right place. It might be time to go and seek a brand-new adventure.

You Yearn For Better Environments

Let’s be honest here. If you’re trying to find yourself better environments, and you know that you belong somewhere else, you’re in the wrong place. It’s time for you to get out of the rat race.

Those of us who are meant to do something better will automatically yearn for it. They’ll crave fresh challenges, search for environments which are going to nurture their freedom and creative choices.

If you’re constantly searching for these environments, then it is a good sign that they’re where you’re supposed to be. You are meant to be in a nurturing environment, somewhere that makes you feel like you’ve got something better in your destiny.

You’re definitely meant to be in these better destinations, but you just don’t know it yet. If you yearn for a more creative, more encouraging, more nurturing environment, then you should definitely strive to find it.

You Want to Connect With Like-Minded People

Let’s be honest. Most of the creative types in the world are not in a corporate job. It’s not really the place that they tend to flock to, because it’s not the right environment for them.

If you want to connect with more like-minded people, you need to drop out of the rat race now. There’s a whole series of creative individuals out there who are just waiting to connect with you.

Digital nomads, digital marketers, influences, online consultants, none of these people are located within the typical corporate world. They don’t need to be. These are people who don’t need someone else to write the rulebook for them. They would much rather create their own rules, and put their own emphasis on what’s important and what isn’t.

You’re Not Happy

At the end of the day, when all is said and done, if you’re not happy, it’s time to drop out of the rat race based on that one fact.

There are quite a few reasons why someone might not be happy in their current position of employment. Fundamentally, you need to make sure that you’re doing the right thing for your emotional and mental well-being. Sometimes, the rat race is just not for you.

When you’re not happy, you need to change that. It may well be that you’re lacking those meaningful connections. The relationships and situations which offer up meaningful experiences.

Closing Thoughts

The rat race is something which we’ve all experienced. It can drain you dry, and make you feel like you’re not capable of moving onto better environments. You might feel trapped, you might feel unhappy, and you might feel creatively starved.

However, the corporate wheel can also have a different effect on people. It can be a stark reminder of what could be. It motivates people to break out, to seek their own lifestyle and way forward in life. It can be the motivation that people need to break out of the rat race, and it gives them a chance to move forward and to explore new connections.

You might discover that this is not the correct environment for you. You belong somewhere else, with people who make you feel like you can do anything and move forward. Your destiny is to accept that there is a world which has been built for you to embrace, but it’s not in the corporate world. It’s not being chained to a desk every day. It’s about living in a welcoming, natural, creative environment.

With that being said, the only person who can make the transition is you. It may well be time for you to break out of the rat race. But until you make the change, and until you look for the next chapter, you won’t be happy. If you’re tired of the view from the top of the mountain, it’s time to find a new view. It’s time to find a new mountain to climb.
