Emerging Digital Careers

Many people have a misconception that online jobs are a scam, a pyramid scheme in motion, or one waiting to happen. However, for those familiar with the online industries, online jobs are legit and are here to stay. As mentioned in an earlier blog post titled, ” Facts Behind Digital Opportunities”, there are hundreds or probably thousands of different types of online jobs. These jobs range from simple tasks such as partaking in surveys, reviewing products, to complex careers such as programming. Some of the digital career’s fields include:

1. Vlogging

The most popular field for many digital nomads is in the vlogging industry. Many people may be familiar with this because of the recent rise of thousands of YouTube celebrities. For some of these celebrities, vlogging is a fulltime job that pays handsomely. This industry’s beauty is that; it is free for one to start, and it does not require expert knowledge. Different vloggers specialize in different areas. While some offer tutorials on cooking and how to do tips, others specialize in comedy, song covers, motivational stories, travel documentaries, beauty, eating out, and makeups. In this industry, one can choose any niche and specialize in it. For those who might feel like YouTube is flooded, there are different platforms where one can creatively develop content such as on Vimeo, Metacafe, Dailymotion, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

2. Writing

For as long as businesses use writing as a form of communication, writing will always be a viable career option. The beauty of it all is that one does not need to be employed to do it or have university education. Similarly, one can remain lowkey and earn some good bucks. Some of the areas where one may opt to engage in as a writer include blog, ghost, article, technical, SEO, B2B, video script, B2C, email marketing, social media writing, proofreading, and editing, among others. These writing careers are diverse, and for one to understand how they work, another blog post may be availed for this.

3. Programming

By learning a programming language such as React, one can earn as much as $60 per hour. To start as a programmer, one does not need to have a university degree. On the other hand, one can learn how to code for free through the hundreds of online courses available on YouTube or other platforms such as Coursera and Udemy.

4. Transcription

In as much as it may be hard to believe, one can make a full-time career out of listening to audio files and writing what is said in them. This act of converting spoken words into readable files is known as transcribing. There are several transcription sites where one can get jobs such as Speechpad, Scribie, Rev, TranscribeMe, Quicktate, CastingWords, and Ubiqus.

5. Online Teaching

If you are knowledgeable about something, you can develop a course for it and sell it online. This form of teaching can be done actively through videoconferencing tools such as Zoom or passively, where one creates tutorials on a subject and packages it as a course. Packaged courses can be sold through platforms such as Udemy, Thinkific, Teachable, LearnWorlds, among others.
